Crosswalk Chicago, www.croswalkchicago.org, is a Chicago faith based organization founded to voice opposition to the hundreds of deaths in Chicago each year due to gun violence. Tonight they are holding a vigil for "nights without gun violence" at 7 pm, December 17, 2012, at the First Baptist Congregational Church located at 1613 W. Washington Boulevard, Chicago.
The group's purpose is to bring people from all parts of Chicago together to show there is a committed group of people dedicated to stopping gun violence with legislation. At the last protest march in April 1500 people walked 4 miles from the Episcopal Cathedral to Stroger Hospital (Cook County's public hospital) in protest. This group created a good amount of media attention. I know it's not a solution but creating media attention and putting political pressure on our elected officials begins with one step: a show of hands that this gun culture cannot continue.
Check out the website for more information. Please join us tonight. I just decided wringing my hands and feeling crappy are not active step toward solving this mess. There was a fair amount of media attention at the last protest march.
