I agree with Wayne LaPierre.  Let's hire a police officer to protect every school in the country.  Join me below the orange thingamajig as to why and how.

First, let me mention that I am a teacher and my first priority is to keep my students safe.  I know that having a cop in every school isn't going to stop all of the killings, but it can't hurt and if it saves one life it's worth it.  So my proposal is that every police department in the country hires at least one policeman for each school in it's jurisdiction.  And I do mean policemen.  I don't want a half trained $8 an hour guy off the street.  I want well trained policemen who are earning full pay and benefits. They aren't going to come cheap.
So this is how we pay for them.  We pass a tax on guns and ammunition.  10% on all hunting rifles, shotguns and handguns holding 10 rounds or less.  25% on any weapon that holds more than ten rounds, or is capable of holding more than 10 rounds.  50% on magazines holding over ten rounds.  10% on hunting ammunition (22LR, .308, etc.)  25% on personal protection ammunition (9mm, .223, etc.).
Think about it.  We hire a couple of hundred thousand cops to protect our kids and stimulate the economy at the same time. Gun owners pay for the protection of our children from guns.  Seems only fair.

This is Wayne LaPierre's idea.  Let's go with it and get gun owners to pay for it.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
