Or, How a Kind Gesture Fosters Gratitude For the Place in Which We Live.

(With apologies to Voltaire, whose quote I have, um, adapted.)
Through Kos' War on Christmas Fundraiser, I received a gift subscription from someone I don't know: Kestrel, a well-respected diarist, whose comments I've seen around, but whose diaries I've never read; nor do we share any tags or groups.
So why this act of kindness?
Because we are a community
.
Kestrel's outreach to me -- basically a stranger -- represents a community that I want to be more involved with and work harder for. I've been here since 2008, and have been as active as my health allows, but I can do more. I want to do more.
Our community truly makes "what is excellent in others belong to us as well."
We're often at each others' throats, like a dysfunctional family at Thanksgiving. Some issues are completely black and white; you're either for or against. But we're a community of people who don't hesitate to express their opinions, and, somehow, we manage to agree on the size and shape of the table. Then we sit down together and pursue the common goal that brought us together and unites us into this community: more and better Democrats.
Thanks, y'all.
