Want to see gun-control advocacy erupt on the right? Creative resistance is the key. Here’s the recipe:

First: Stop thinking that the wingnuts have an ounce of rationality. They are fearful, neurotic, and prone to peculiar conclusions. But put that aside for the moment. They are not the immediate target. The point now is to startle those who use the wingnuts. Proceed with that in mind. Therefore, playing upon the slightly more rational fears of the manipulators, let's widely propose the creation of a heavily armed “Occupy Militia.”
Second: Suggest that all lefties buy AR15s, macho pistols, and similar weapons. Predict that left-wing shooting groups will swamp gun ranges with new rifle clubs. State that plans are afoot to create an alternative NRA-type organization with a guerilla-military orientation and deep pockets (via Hollywood). Hint that the new organization will send delegates to major American gun makers seeking mass discounts and financial support. Also suggest that the new militia clubs will lobby the Defense Department to reject arms made by major American weapons makers who continue to support the NRA.
Third: Have combat-style targets printed with pictures of Wayne LaPierre, Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Strom Thurmond, Nathan Bedford Forrest, et al, in place of whomever the wingnuts shoot at. Talk with great authority about aiming at “center mass.” Showcase the targets on a website. On that same site feature designs for militia jackets, hats, patches, bumper stickers, and T-shirts. Highlight lots of pics of Che Guevara, Nat Turner, and John Brown.
Fourth: Talk and write widely about re-embracing the Second Amendment as a guarantee that We the People have the right to overthrow tyrants and/or irrational leaders. Challenge the false Jefferson quotes to show how gullible the wingies are. Mention Tea Party names as objectionable tyrants.
Fifth: Enjoy! Or, if things backfire, prepare for another Civil War.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

Absolutely try to launch (and fail) their own blowback to the government.

I say that and sometimes people go "no, that's all talk"

all I can say is: Oklahoma City.

  •  I think shooting at targets of people you don't (0+ / 0-)

like is kind of an example of someone who should stay a long ways away from anything resembling a gun.

Also taking up shooting requires commitment of money and lots of time, plus meeting and talking to people face to face makes one much less eager to discuss politics. There are many lefties at the range already, more than half of rural Dems are gun owners

Back when I thought it was safe, in the 80 acre undeveloped place there were hand drawn pictures of a woman, childlike drawings used to shoot at

I'm thinking the idiot was drawing his mom but just a crazy guess

So you are perfect, but what about those that aren't

      And that is not rhetorical

      •  the person might also have been used to drawing (0+ / 0-)

pictures of women and so that came easiest, or maybe he hated women or who knows.

Specific people however is kind of too much.

For those who can't control anger issues I'd suggest not owning guns.
