Sunday!

Itzl AlertingAs you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here.  We care!

If you'd like to be part of the Itzl Alert Network, please leave a comment asking to join, or send us a message asking to join. We'd love to have you. The bigger our network, the less likely someone will be stranded all alone.

I thought it was too cold for Schmetterlings, but I say a milky yellow one hovering over the last of my lavender blossoms today.

No picture because it was gone by the time I went in the house to get the camera and came back out.

So here's a pretty picture of one that was on my African Bush Daisy a few years ago:

The Bush Daisy died in the snow we had that year, but the picture endures.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

You can add a private note to this diary when hotlisting it:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary from your hotlist?
Are you sure you want to remove your recommendation? You can only recommend a diary once, so you will not be able to re-recommend it afterwards.

Choose where to republish this diary. The diary will be added to the queue for that group. Publish it from the queue to make it appear.

Add a quick update to your diary without changing the diary itself:

(The diary will be removed from the site and returned to your drafts for further editing.)
(The diary will be removed.)
Are you sure you want to save these changes to the published diary?

too late for butterflies here in PA...but the cardinal I've been hearing all summer finally showed up last week amid a flock of sparrows all pecking at something under the leaves in the backyard.

Today it snowed...I was kind of hoping for one of those postcard-perfect glimpses of cardinal against snowy backdrop, but no sign of him.

      freeze-proofing our delicates.

that means dragging out a ladder & quilting out bay standard; finding the sawdust bags and mulching a bunch of things, esp the blueberry, I think. Have to consider what else will need actual bagging...  and Sunday is supposed to be our "day of rest"!

yeah, a measly 27/28 is a big deal here, 8-); mid-winter overnights usually run to the low 30's, which we know will not bother hardly anything we have. Below-freezing, however... we do know that that will badly burn the bay tree, and may bother the smaller azaleas. And this winter we have some new kids that we've never over-wintered at all! the bamboo, yoicks! and the pieris (sic), and the blueberry.

We stayed in a campground in Bowling Green, Ky. Last night. It was freezing driving through Indiana yesterday. Light snow and heavy wind the whole way.  This morning it's cold, but no wind, and I see something yellow in the sky.  Not sure what it is since I haven't seen the sun in so long.

    Have a good day.

I am a work in progress. Still.

fool me into thinking it's snowing, for most of this full-moon week! I think it's that the dew on the grass in back is so reflective. So I trundle to the front door and actually look out, or shine the big flashlight out onto the plantings just outside the LR window, and that usually sets me straight (not snow, not even rain, when the front path stepping stones are ... stone dry!)

Unfortunately, it's been foggy/cloudy enough at the same time, that I haven't had a chance of seeing that full-moon-Jupiter match-up that someone has been posting about. sigh.

It's cold. 42 at 9:30, supposed to get up near 60. Today is FloridaSNDad's birthday! So we have some baking to do, and he requested Pasta Fagoule (sp?) for dinner. I'll make some bread to go with it. My back still hurts, but I'm breathing ok. maybe I'll skip the hospital for New Years this year (knocks on wood).

Broths I'm glad to hear your trip is going well! Stay safe! It's supposed to warm up down here later this week again.

Ok, time to go get breakfast and feed the cat before she gets mad at me and starts throwing things on the floor.

cup of coffee, snuggle in with the paper and watch the last football game of the season for the bills and the jets!

Time to close off the top half of the house for the rest of the heating season, only one cat is actually using the box up there, so I can move it down to the landing for a few months.
