I know, that sounds crazy, but let's look at his logic. From his op-ed today in Yahoo! News:

Predictably, the President is already claiming that his tax hike on the “rich” isn’t enough. I have news for him: the moment that he and virtually every elected Democrat in Washington signed off on the terms of the current arrangement, it was the last word on taxes. That debate is over.
So, in McConnell's view, having passed a bill that increased taxes, that's it - no more talk AT ALL about raising taxes, EVER.

But waitaminit, Mitch! A bill was passed in 2011 that cut spending, by $1.2 Trillion.

So, by McConnell's logic, that would have been the end of cutting spending. No more talk AT ALL about cutting spending, EVER.

I know, I know.... trying to apply logic to a Republican's words is an exercise in futility, but it never hurts to point out what a hypocritical, sanctimonious bunch they are.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

There is no such thing as an off year election. Every election effects each other. We need to work as hard in 2014 as we did in 2012.

is foreign to this creature. He is the result of a hideous Dr. Moreau-like experiment in which some demented doctor sought to cross a human with a turtle and a massive mass of scrotal elephantiasis. The logic centers are completely missing from this life-form. Which is why the Saboteur Party has found it right and meet to appoint him titular head of their Confederate States of America.

I was amused to see that some claimed that the GOPers are NOT making this precise claim.

What we call god is merely a living creature with superior technology & understanding. If their fragile egos demand prayer, they lose that superiority.

    datapoint for our current situation.

My understanding from recent reports is that our current government spending is 23% of GDP while the taxation established by the McCDonnell-Biden bill is 18% of GDP - A 5% of GDP gap

Republicans expect this 5% of GDP gap will be closed by 22% reductions of government spending, but not to defense which would therefore be a greater than 44% reduction to social programs. Much greater I believe, since a substantial percentage of government spending, such as interest on debts, and pension payments is non-discretionary.

This is the famous "starve the beast" budget the vision for which was launched by Ronald Reagan.  A phrase which usually goes along with "a government so small it can be drowned in the bathtub."

Not only has the GOP adamantly drawn the line-in-the-sand over new more taxation, but they have also said no more extensions of the debt-ceiling without a dollar-for-dollar match of government spending cuts, which with a deficit at $1.2 trillion a year, they expect will accomplish their goal of eliminating all Democratic social programs before we have any chance of regaining control of the House.

I am eagerly looking forward to hearing what our new plan is now that we have given up the plan to trade the 2% of GDP Bush tax cuts for a combined middle class tax cut with substitute more progressive corporate and wealthy taxation.

We need to hear it quickly as the debt-ceiling is already upon us.
