I just read a diary here that makes me want to puke, so I'll just rant instead. More below.
Ladies and gentlemen, I am ASHAMED to be an American (As if I weren't already so). I am ashamed, because our society as a whole not only allows for people to be victimized in such a way, but blames the victims as well. But hey, what else can you expect in a society that values things like corporate profit, status and other symbols of recognition above the well-being of human beings and other living creatures?
That's the heart of the matter. It's not just the fact that an entire town is defending a couple of high-school jackoffs that makes me angry. The reasons they're doing it (in my opinion) have a lot to do with this as well. Think about how much that town, and that district is going to lose because a couple of teenage boys decided to commit an act of terror. Think about why the community is so quick to defend them. One commenter had it right. It's about money. Hell, in some states, sports are practically the entire economy.
How can we expect to raise children in a place that doesn't even value human life or human decency, much less human life? We're being worked to death. We're told that the only reason we exist is to make a few wealthy people wealthier.
I know I sound like I'm painting with a broad brush here, but look around you and you'll see just what I mean. It's everywhere, the sociopathy I mean.
I don't see how anyone can deal with it anymore. Our country needs an evaluation, pronto.
