Right-wing, nuthouse radio talk-show host Neal Boortz started a petition on the White House website titled: "Invite Neal Boortz, the author of The FairTax Book, to spend one hour talking with the President about tax reform." It's garnered nearly 6,700 signatures since yesterday.
The reason it's bogus is because Boortz has to know that President Obama would never invite him to the Oval Office for a chat about tax policy. It's a publicity stunt and nothing more. Just something Boortz can talk about on his radio show for the next week until he retires.
And, since the petition won't expire until February, some of his buddies on talk radio will help him carry the fraud forward. A link to the petition is on redstate (not linked here) and Erick Erickson, who has a two-hour spot on WSB Radio, wants to give this to Boortz as a nice send-off. Hardy-har.
Over the years since candidate Obama and then President Obama took office, Neal Boortz has been nothing but an odious critic of the President's. He calls him a communist, a socialist, someone who wants to "destroy this country" and someone who knows nothing about business (as if Boortz the failed lawyer does).
Boortz had an opportunity to debate the fair tax with Emory professor (and sometime dKos diarist, Alan Abramowitz), who heard about Boortz's challenge second-hand and wrote a letter on April 27, 2010, in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution taking him up:
Debate the ‘Fair Tax’? Boortz, I’ll take you up
When I opened up my Atlanta Journal-Constitution Saturday, I was surprised to learn that Neal Boortz had challenged me to a debate on his “Fair Tax” proposal — surprised because Boortz never bothered to contact me about such a debate (“Plain speaking about the Fair Tax,” Opinion, April 24). So, I’ll respond to his offer in the same manner that he made it — right here on the AJC Opinion page.
Sure, Neal, I’d be happy to debate you..."
Abramowitz goes on to offer that he and Boortz shouldn't just limit their debate to one class of students in attendance, but he could arrange for a whole audience that would be set up by the Young Democrats and Young Republicans. Did Boortz accept the counter-challenge? Hell no - he was too scared to
really debate. Can't shut that down, can't hang up on the dumb fucker.
Boortz is a fake and fraud. His petition should spawn a counter-petition. But that would just make his day. Not for any substantive reason, but for ratings. AMF Neal Boortz.
