It didn't take long for Republicans to announce their full and total support for Obama's new gun provisions. Oh wait, I forgot, the talking heads need to score points with the extreme wing of the party and so abandoned all elements of sanity en route to out-grandstanding each other.
Ann Coulter, bastion of Republican sanity:
“[I] think we should respond with the next Republican president having executive orders [that say] we won’t ban abortions, but we will just ban abortionists and abortion clinics. How would that be?"
And don't forget this classic quote from her:
“If you compare white populations, we have the same murder rate as Belgium.”
Steve Stockman, from the always stalwart bastion of Constitutionalism:
“I will seek to thwart this action by any means necessary, including but not limited to eliminating funding for implementation, defunding the White House, and even filing articles of impeachment."
Marco Rubio, reading the cards for a potential 2016 Republican presidential nomination, had this to say:
"President Obama is targeting the 2nd Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens instead of seriously addressing the real underlying causes of such violence."
Because common sense gun laws have nothing to do with helping address violence.
Trent Franks of Arizona, reminding us that Democrats have a deep hate-on for the Second Amendment:
“I don’t trust the left to back away from their lifelong commitment to destroy the Second Amendment."
I wonder how the proud, gun owning Kossacks on this site feel about Franks' statement?
And don't forget Reince Priebus, chairman of the Republican National Committe:
"President Obama's series of gun control measures amount to an executive power grab that may please his political base but will not solve the problems at hand. He paid lip service to our fundamental constitutional rights, but took actions that disregard the 2nd Amendment and the legislative process."
Seriously, in a year that we've had a Bane-like man walk into a movie theater firing off weapons, an elementary school massacre and a white supremacist who shot up a Sikh temple, can we not have this discussion? Considering that these are only a few of the things that happened this year.
