Washington State's new governor is Democrat Jay Inslee. He and I both live on a tree clad island just across Puget Sound from Seattle. He is my neighbor (about six miles of separation) and I am proud of him. Before becoming Gov, Jay was our Congressman for many years. He ran and won in a tough race against his republican opponent.
Today, Jay gave his inaugural speech. I watched it on the local government channel, TVW. He reminded me and underlined why it was important for him to win. Jay sounds like every Democratic politician in our country should sound. Offering forward looking solutions to creating a new economy that is powered by clean and green energy, innovation, public education, the expansion of Medicaid under Obamacare, the need to make government more efficient through the application of LEAN management and the recognition of climate change as the major problem facing all of us.
His opening statement:
“There is no challenge is greater for Washington, with more opportunity for job growth, and more suited to our particular brand of genius and ingenuity, than leading the world’s clean energy economy. It is clear to me that we are the right state, at the right time, with the right people, and it’s also clear to me that we face grave and immediate danger if we fail to act.”
