After the last VA/DC/MD Daily Kos meetup, my husband said, why isn't there ever a Daily Kos meetup in Virginia, near us? I gave him several reasons, one being that people in Maryland are afraid to cross the Potomac. The other reason is that I didn't have any good ideas for where to hold a meetup nearby. A new member, Liz Dexic has solved that problem because she's offered to host a potluck in nearby Herndon.

If this is the first you've heard of it, that's no surprise. It's been my experience that if you write 8 diaries about an upcoming meetup (as I did for the last one at Union Station DC), only 60% of people will read about it and then when you do a writeup about how much fun it was, other people will post that they wish they'd known about it because they would have come.

Herndon is a great location for me because I live in Ashburn, in nearby Loudoun. But it's not terribly far for other Daily Kos members, so I'd like those of you in Northern VA, Washington DC, and the Maryland metro area to consider coming.

I've mapquested some of the distances and here's a sampling:

From Arlington, VA - 31 mins.
Alexandria - 43 mins
Silver Spring, MD - 38 mins
Bethesda, MD - 34 mins
Rockville, MD - 35 mins
Fairfax, VA - 23 mins
Washington DC - 36 mins
Columbia, MD - 58 mins

Liz says her home is metro accessible, so if you let her know where you're coming from, she'll make sure you make the right connections.

Further info from her diary:

The plan: Sunday, January 27 from Noon - 5 pm. This gives us about an hour for Meet and Greet & some appetizers, then dive into the food around 1 pm.

here's plenty of parking in the neighborhood subdivision (we're on a corner), a couple of levels where conversation groups may sit and chat while eating, and of course pooties. Said pooties will be corralled initially because they are way too friendly and no one would get a chance to eat, so later they will join us.

The location address and contact information will be sent to you via Kosmail. If you're attending and can bring something, I'll keep track and update the event info as it develops.

The location is also near the Monroe Park & Ride and you can take the 950 Weekend bus from West Falls Church, give a call once you're on your way, and we'll come get you if you're a Metro rider.

Attendees and what they're bringing (will update):

a gilas girl (via Metro)
Diana in NoVa                             tiny cheese pizzas

Tagging tips - Search For Tags - Browse For Tags

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
