Yes, once again Harry Reid promised us Filibuster reform.  Once again we fell for it and just as I thought he would, at the last minute he pulled the football out and we, the American Public, landed kersplat, right on our fannies.

When are we going to learn.  I heard Sherrod Brown trying to make lemurade out of this last night on MSNBC, his basic argument was they didn't have the votes.  Well folks that's because Harry Reid didn't want there to be the votes.  If he had, he'd have gotten it done.  But he hemmed and hawed and pretended to be all over the fillibuster reform, until it was finally all over.

New Senate Leadership 2014!

I hope Mr. Reid grows a boil on his butt where he's been sitting on it too long.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

not to be surprised by anything.

I learned this after working for and voting for I don't know how many Democrats in a primary that never had a chance to get the nomination.

That I was far more liberal then most in my party. It is what it is. Not happy about that, but alas that is the way it is.

Is that like "Grow a pair?" a remark that would be Hide Rateable on the face of it.

Rather than simply rant about your failure to achieve the latest "shiny thing" you desired, how about you explain why you are right, and Sherrod Brown is wrong.

I figured from the moment, days ago, that Reid started to change his view, that he probably didn't have the votes, and for that we blame Democratic Senators.

Harry Reid has one vote, and a big stick which sometimes works and sometimes doesn't because several Senators are more scared of their own shadows than they are of Harry.

Change in the Senate is painfully slow and almost always incremental. It has always been that way, and the appearance some are giving of only just finding this out is fine, but it does suggest that they need to pay more attention.

The Senate is a horrible mess, even if Democrats do appear to have a majority ... They also have more than a few DINOs.

It allows our side to set the agenda, but little else.

I hope that the quality of debate will improve,
but I fear we will remain Democrats.

This is just another 20-dimensional chess comment.

Reid had his chance and he blew it on condemning other Senators for revealing who was in the way of reform.

Saying Reid could not achieve anything is just defeatist nonsense.

You could say that after each and every decision ever made by any politician.

I believe in Trust but Verify but others, new to politics, still seem to be stuck on Trust.

So we achieve nothing because politicians give in and never get called on it.  They always have an out "Nothing more was possible".

That is the chorus line from the song of perpetual failure.

If he chooses to use it.

He could have brought reform to the floor and let it fail if he didn't have the votes - but those that opposed it would have been on the record as opposing it, and would end up with guaranteed primary challenges. They'd therefore be less likely to break with the party. I bet it would have passed on a party line vote.

He has plenty of other sticks available too.

The only reasonable explanation is that he personally didn't want it to pass, and in doing so he's crippled Obama's next two years.

He betrayed the president, not just us, and should resign.

The next majority leader should use the actual nuclear option and tell the Republicans to shove their gentleman's agreement where the sun don't shine.

        has been a great disappointment.

He has let Mitch McConnell run all over him and it is time to replace Harry.

Just like Nancy Pelosi is doing more to get things done in the House than John Boehner is, seems Mitch is also getting his way more often due to a weak Harry.

Just my feelings and I once appreciated Harry Reid's soft spoken voice.  Not anymore.  He's weak and has shown that to be true time after time.

There should have been a better, stronger compromise on the filibuster but there was not.  Expect nothing to happen of importance in the next 2 years and we are then assuming that the Dems might take back the House - remember, We Are Gerrymandered to the moon and back.
