Very very sorry to see the TTFN
from Avila this morning. Being made an Editor at Invisible People was one of my proudest moments at Daily Kos. Avila has done Daily Kos a great service by being an Administrator of that group. So sorry to see her go, and hoping she will return.
Most of the vitriol from the comments in her diary was directed at the RKBA group. Unfairly, in my humble opinion, because it isn't only the RKBA folks who are being abusive and saying ugly things. Yes, I resigned from that group because of their abusive ways.
But the ugliest comment I've ever had directed at me (and my family) came from someone on the other side of the issue.
That person said that anyone who teaches children how to shoot guns is like a child molester having sex with his children in order to teach them how to have sex.
That is the most vile comment I have ever had directed at me and my family at Daily Kos. So, yes, the other side should take a look at itself also.
Please jump the Kossack banner.
On a backwoods farm, learning to shoot is about survival. And the men in my family respected women and girls enuf to make sure that we all knew how to hunt. This meant happy hours in the woods with my father or grandfather. Being quiet, taking the time to take careful aim. That's why we didn't need big guns to hunt.
The other side also throws around terms like "gun nuts," etc etc etc into a barf bag. Kitsap River was called a "murderer." What other group could get away with that sort of name calling, and even get uprates for it?
The Obama/Biden Gun Safety Plan is a sensible, moderate plan, which fully preserves the 2nd Amendment. Most supporters of the 2nd Amendment including most NRA members, could get behind this plan.
We have a chance at some meaningful legislation here if we work together. Only the most extreme members of the RKBA will oppose this legislation. Ignore them. Don't fight with them.
To the other side: your vitriol towards gun owners such as myself, will not help you to get the Obama/Biden Plan passed into law. Neither will your anti-2nd Amendment group because the group itself, and its mission, becomes the issue.
Kossacks should decide what they really want. Do you want to continue to tear each other apart, or do you want to see meaningful gun safety reform?
Focus, people, Focus.
