This will be short, and very unsweet.

Islamic militants broke into Timbukto's Amhed Baba Institute. This library was the center of most Islamic history, and boasted more than 20,000 scrolls and books, some dating back to 1200 CE.

They burned it down.

I am happy to state that I have only witlessed one burning of books in living color. Some demented bible beating thug decided that Harry Potter, instead of being a boost to hungry readers of all ages, was the spawn of Satan, and constituted a clear and present danger to the welfare of "god-fearin, christian childrens everywhere." That is an exact quote.

Who else burned books? Hilter. Stalin. Mao. Pol Pot. Think of any despot or tyrannical asshole, and usually, they tried to control the minds and the thoughts of their people, often by force.

While it may seem a bit like a christian creep burning bibles, the idea that Islamic Militarist thugs broke into and burned the greatest collection of Muslim writings is simply unforgivable.

Anyone who burns a book (I might almost make an exception for that series of "End of Times" crap, but even that can be educational - it proves how crazy christian ideas truly are, when they are taken to extremes by demented excrements. Extremists. Whatever.)

Insert a series of swear words that would make my mother blush.
Direct them to the fuckers who decided to burn their own history and heritage.
May they feel each lick of flame themselves.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
