Just in case you had any doubts, Andrew Cuomo is going all-in with his quest to brand himself as the second coming of Ronald Reagan, the faux-Democratic standard-bearer for corporate friendly anti-tax conservatism. Last year he pushed through a budget that hammered education spending and reduced taxes on Wall Street's plutocrats.
So what's he doing this year?
It's worse.
Viewers in NY State are right now being carpet-bombed by repeated television ads featuring a smiling Andrew Cuomo proudly announcing that his new proposed State budget includes no new taxes. And no new spending. Because jobs.
Just in case the point doesn't get through, he repeatedly asserts that "No new taxes means more jobs for New Yorkers". Yeah. Tell that to the thousands of teachers laid off across New York over the last 18 months by school districts forced to limbo under slashed budgets. The brainless repetitive regurgitation of the standard Republican talking point, tax cuts=jobs, flies in the face of reality. But whatever.
And for special emphasis, the ads feature the head of Corning, Incorporated who proudly declares his support for Cuomo's budget, despite being "a lifelong Republican".
Lower taxes for billionaires and corporations. Thousands of teachers laid off. Gutted services and regulations. And coming next to a watershed near you: Fracking!
Don't be fooled. Andrew Cuomo is worse than a "DINO". He's a corporate Republican in Democratic clothing. If you liked NAFTA, welfare 'reform' and Rubinomics, you'll love him. If on the other hand you happen to hail from the Democratic wing of the Democratic party, he is pure poison. With a smiling face.
