I met "Joyce NY" as she calls herself on Facebook, after she defended my brother when he supported President Obama during the last election.
We had lunch at a Thai place on Staten Island.
She is retired now from the MTA, and is a really nice person.
What happened to her cousin is, sad to say, not so unusual.
An 8 count indictment was unsealed in Orange County Court Tuesday charging 39 year old David Stevenson, of 8 Mountain Avenue, Port Jervis with multiple felonies committed on January 15th, 2013, in the City of Port Jervis.
Stevenson has been charged with one count of Murder in the 2nd Degree, for the death of his girlfriend, Tyrochelle Haughton on January 15th, 2013, by slashing her throat with a sharp object. It is also believed that Stevenson intentially set the home the couple shared on Mountain Avenue on fire to cover up the homicide.
The indictment also includes charges of Manslaughter in the 1st Degree, 2nd and 3rd Degree Arson, two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd Degree, one count of Animal Cruelty, and one count of Tampering With Physical Evidence.
The Tampering count alleges that he started the fire in order to cover up evidence of the homicide.

Her sudden death leaves behind four children who are 20, 16, 12, & 6 years old. One of her children suffers from Type 1 Diabetes and her 6 year old son has ADD/ADHD & is mildly autistic. The funds will be directed to the "Children of TyRochelle Haughton" fund at Wells Fargo Bank. All proceeds will go towards assisting with the remaining balance for TyRochelle's final expenses & rebuilding the lives of her children who have lost everything in the fire including their mother. Her children need your love & support during this difficult time. We want to be able to support these children and give them opportunity at having a fair shot at life. No donation is too small.
