DK Quilt Guild: A place for quilters to gather, share ideas, projects, and to make the world a better place, one quilt at a time. Join us and share your thoughts, projects, questions, and tips. Quilters here are at many different levels of skill. Beginners and non-quilters are welcome, too!
My quilting buddies and I recently made a trip to the
National Quilt Museum.. We’re lucky – we live only 4, 5 hours away and this was my third visit.
The single most stunning quilt I’ve ever seen was on my first visit. The quilt is Sedona Rose by Sharon Schamber. More information on the quilt can be found in The Quilt Index.
This picture does not do it justice. It is a double-sided quilt and the museum had it hanging so one could see both sides. I came up on it from the back, which is a golden whole cloth quilted in black with beads. You think that’s the quilt, then you keep on walking and then the colors of the front hit you. You can see detail of the back and front at this link.
This quilt is in the museum’s collection because part of the American Quilt Society Paducah Quilt Show. Best of Show award is the $20,000 purchase prize provided by the museum. Not all Best of Show winners accept the purchase prize. But many do. And aren’t we lucky they do. Because that gives us, the quilting public, an opportunity to stand with our noses almost touching the quilt checking out every little detail.
To be continued.
