... and what would have been a more rational response?

I don't worry too much about Republicans and assorted wingnuts taking my advice on methods for not being crazy, so I've written a post on my blog Bluestate Geogia outlining why hiding behind a printer might not be the only option open to a legislator who is asked questions by a reporter.

The Georgia House and Senate are crazy to an astonishing degree at the moment.  Recently Bryan Long from Better Georgia filmed part of a seminar for state senators on Agenda 21 mind control before he was discovered and ousted from the room.  This incident was notable only because it was uncovered and filmed.  No doubt this is the tip of the iceberg, and the undiscovered crazy runs deep.

It's hard to expect legislators inundated with the tea party crazy which afflicts the contemporary GOP to behave in a sane manner.  But we can't lose sight of the fact that as entertaining as GOP antics can be, the GOP has supermajority control over the Georgia legislature.  Clowns are for the circus, not for crafting legislation.

The answer to the question "Why did Georgia's state senator Bill Heath hid behind a printer" is: "Because he's crazy."  Our next question should be "Why isn't the Democratic Party of Georgia targetting and contesting seats held by lunatics?"

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

"Colorful" is the polite word we use to describe these gentlemen and ladies who in a sane world would be placed in the St. Joseph's Home for the Terminally Bewildered where they could do no harm to themselves, and mroe importantly, the sane folks around them.

am really a native of Ga by 5 generations and trust me..they make all of we southerners look bad.   My grandfather donated the land for Douglasville to be built.
The majority there never want to grow or travel or do anything but pass the plate.  I am serious.

rag the legislators -- till we get them out of office -- because yes, they make us look stupid. I'm often embarrassed to be from Georgia; but I think the demographics of the state are truly changing, to the point that our state is tinting purple.

Again, inferring that people from Douglasville (who may or may not be "hicks," which is what I think you're saying) are representative of the entire state doesn't do us any favors.

My father's family came here in 1826 with the land lottery on the east of the Chattahoochee.  My mother's family came with the north Georgia gold rush a few years later.

loud races make Douglasville look stupid?   Cherokee County is not Douglas County .  As far as Douglasville...you bet I know the people there and no most are not progressive at all.   They are people I went to school with and people Mama went to school with and I know all of the local government, went to school with them and most are in the tea party.   Douglasville is more progressive than Villa rica or Carrollton but unless one lives in Decatur or some other close surrounding area, to Atlanta I do not see it turning purple.

            and this is why..http://www.douglascountyteaparty.com/...

1500 people showed up and that is a lot of people for that town.

I am a southerner and proud of it but I surely don't see it going purple or even light pink.  rural areas are very hard to live in if you don't agree with republians.. I moved to a democratic county in Florida.
