Welcome to Brothers and Sisters, the weekly meetup for prayer* and community at Daily Kos. We put an asterisk on pray* to acknowledge that not everyone uses conventional religious language, but may want to share joys and concerns, or simply take solace in a meditative atmosphere. Anyone who comes in the spirit of mutual respect, warmth and healing is welcome.
So much on the calendar right now. Mardi Gras aka Faschen is going strong for a few more hours, with Ash Wednesday in a few days. Lunar New Year - the start of a new season and year in many Asian countries, and many of Asian descent all around the world. Valentine's Day later this week. Imbolc last weekend. Award show season, too, with Grammy stuff finishing tonight, and a big dog show this week.
At church this morning, our pastor talked about looking at people. "What do you see when you look at one person?" Do we just see that person? Or inside of them, with everything in their heart and mind?
Usually, I think we start with that person and what they look like to us. Maybe we notice a particular details (I look for knitted items or jewelry). If we talk to them, we start to learn what is in their heart and mind. Maybe we keep talking, or get to know them really really well. Do you remember when you first met someone who is now a good friend?
Even if we don't ever learn more, there is still much in everyone's heart and mind. We are all a walking book full of stories. Even though the sum of our experience is a big part of us, it is not all of us.
And even with this, we are not the same person across time and space. The Jenn I was 3 years ago is not the Jenn I am right now. And the Jenn I will be in 3 years is different than who I am right now. And that is all okay.
Lighting candles now.
