Sometimes good people who do good things hire the wrong ad agency and deserved to be slapped upside the head.
I was getting home this afternoon when I saw a whole bunch of advertisements pasted in the subway station. Now the people who paid for this thing are good people and the cause is good, but that’s the problem. The ads were HORRIBLE.
The posters show people with AIDS and the words. “I treat my HIV with Medication Condoms Respect.”n Treating HIV with medication is wonderful; using a condom to prevent its transmission is not treating it, although it’s an excellent idea. But treating the HIV retrovirus (as opposed to the victims of this insidious creature, who DO deserve the highest respect) with respect, is FUCKING DISGUSTING!
You do not show a disease any respect at all. It’s the enemy, it’s a monster, it deserves to be treated with disdain and contempt, not respect. AIDS, not the people who have it but AIDS itself deserves to be humiliated and waterboarded before being drawn and quartered. So does cancer. Today is World Cancer Day, where, I don’t know, people march, I guess. When someone says that they’re “marching for cancer” I want to slap them upside the head. No one marches for cancer, they march AGAINST cancer. And they march AGAINST AIDS. And they don’t say: “I treat HIV with RESPECT” YEESH!
Now I know what your thinking. “These people didn’t really mean it THAT way.” Perhaps, but if your sending out an informational message, it should be the right one. The HIV Stops with Me” campaign should fire it’s ad agency immediately and the moron who came up the with slogan should be body slammed.
…and oh yeah, get a flu shot. An old friend of the family just DIED of it this afternoon. Died of the flu, ain’t that a kick in the head.
