Hey there, fellow venthooligans! Welcome to another Thursday night edition of the Insomniacs Venthole. Besides being Valentine's Day, today is also the great state of Oregon's "birthday" marking 154 years of statehood. Of greater importance and interest to me, and my family, is that today is marks the 100th anniversary of then Oregon Governor Oswald West's visionary gift to all Oregonians; He persuaded the Legislature to pass a law declaring all 362 miles of Oregon beaches to be state highways, from ocean to high tide mark. In addition, the vegetation line between dune and beach was plotted as "The Strand" allowing public access, and denying any permanent structures, such as fences, to be built on them. As houses were built and roads constructed, the west ends of the roads were designated as public beach access. West ultimately gave Oregon the best protected, and most widely accessible beaches in the country. Ironically, although designated as highway, only emergency vehicles are allowed to drive on the beach. It's only fitting that the scenic headlands of Neahkahnie mountain are home to Oswald West State Park.
Sunday marked the beginning of the Year of the Snake according to Chinese Zodiac. My tip jar has a link to find what animal represents your birth year.
Because I care, I offer a few words of advice:
1. Considering a Carnival Cruise? Avoid The Triumph! Or bring your own food and toilet!
2. Don't take a job promoting The Heart Attack Grill. You will die. Of a heart attack!
OK, CriagyFerg stuff. Guests tonight are TV actor and comedian George Lopez, and actress Sutton Foster, who appears on the ABC Family channel show Bunheads.
