I have a stack of drafts here ... about political issues - MA Senate - Guns, women's issues, but weather keeps interfering. Another windy stormy weekend. Lost power for a short time again so I amused myself by watching the birds and how they were faring outside in yet another snowstorm. Of course I took photos from inside -safe from the wind blowing the cold dusty snow in twenty degree temperature.
I can just hear that colleague of mine now, "Another cold winter snowstorm, another example there is no global warming."
We did venture out Saturday to visit an indoor farmer's market held inside the large leaky greenhouse of a local garden center. The blizzard that paralyzed the Cape the week before had been cause for cancellation, but this week's storm wasn't as ferocious and a few brave souls ventured out. Brought home fresh hydroponically grown basil and some blooming plants to cheer things up.
A little sun would be nice.
I'd bet the birds would agree.
"I am a sparrow - but some think I am a thrush - either way this pose is not natural..."
Bluejay - nasty when there is competition for food
Cardinal- we have a few holly trees full bright red berries, they hang out in those trees and hit the suet or scrounge under the sunflower seed feeder.
Starling - usually travels in loud flocks with other blackbirds. Can be nasty in groups, but this guy's been hanging around and sort of waiting his turn
Winter Robin
Nut hatch
Carolina wren ... had a nest in our garden shed last year and the mother spent a month scolding me whenever I worked in the yard. Gotta make sure the husband keeps those doors closed this year.
Junco
My favorite shot of our resident winter robin taken last week ... when there was sun
