Yesterday's CBS evening news hinted at further detailsregarding the mental condition of the man who murdered his mother then shot his way into an elementary school on December 14, 2012.
The 20-year-old apparently believed himself to be in direct competition with Anders Brievik, who is likely to spend the rest of his life in jail in Norway for his rampage.
Law enforcement sources say Adam Lanza was motivated by violent video games and a strong desire to kill more people than another infamous mass murderer.
Sources say Lanza saw himself as being in direct competition with Anders Breivik, a Norwegian man who killed 77 people in July 2011.
A late edition of a Vermont newspaper followed up on these details, and tonight's CBS broadcast expanded on the
evidence revealed ...
that the man who did this may have wanted to "top the toll" of a previous mass murder.
Two officials said evidence had been uncovered suggesting that Lanza was determined to top Breivik’s death count. The officials added that investigators had found credible evidence that Lanza was probably even obsessed with Breivik.
They also found evidence that Lanza had zeroed in on Sandy Hook Elementary School because he felt it was the “easiest target" with the "largest cluster of people."

Paul Vance of the Connecticut State Police told CBS News that the investigation into the motive for the Newtown shooting has not been completed and therefore any statements about the shooter's intent are mere speculation.
