Thursday!
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
If you'd like to be part of the Itzl Alert Network, please leave a comment asking to join, or send us a message asking to join. We'd love to have you. The bigger our network, the less likely someone will be stranded all alone.
It sleeted most of the night, and the temps fell below freezing, so it was an icy drive in to work. I hate driving on ice, and when I retire, I won't miss that at all.
Because it got cold, I made a chowder last night - enough to last for three days. And I made my decadent, once a year The Bread to go with it.
The Bread is simple to make. Take a Petit Pain loaf of bread - a day or two old so it's not flaky crisp anymore. Slice it lengthwise. Slather each half with as much butter as you can fit onto it. A stick of butter, or a little more, is about right. Turn the oven on to broil, and place The Bread on a piece of foil to catch the drippings, and put that on the bottom of the oven until the butter is fully melted into the bread. Move The Bread up to the rack two notches below the broiler and broil it until the butter browns and nearly burns. It's moist, melt-in-your-mouth crispy crunchy delicious The Bread. It tastes rich and almost garlicky - without using garlic.
Once a year is about as often as you want to eat this. It's so rich and filling and flavorful that it satisfies you for a year.
