While there is sufficient evidence surfacing to start pointing the accusatory finger, when it comes to assigning blame or responsibility for the painful budget cuts scheduled to trigger on March 1 2013, Americans need only look in the mirror. Truth be told, there were plenty of markers along the way to warn them not to continue trusting the untrustworthy.
Promising to handcuff themselves to an economic time-bomb so devastating, nobody would be crazy enough to let it go off, a simpleminded, apathetic and poorly informed public just occupied themselves with less taxing intellectual pursuits. After the initial debt ceiling catastrophe, the American people should've never let Congress or the White House have a moments rest until the confidence crippling issue had been removed as a bargaining chip for good.
Once it was determined there was no constitutional remedy for the flaw in the law, "We the People" had an obligation to press legislators into squaring that circle. Simply because Congress and the White House finds it politically expedient to keep "kicking the can down the road", it does not mean "We the People" have to let them!
As much history as that single sobering event made, neither the American people nor the mainstream media charged with informing them, learned a god damn thing. Perhaps, that's why John/Jane Q. Public simple stuck its head up its preverbal ass and continued to trust an institution who clearly couldn't even trust its self.
As events continue to unfold, it will be "We the People" who'll have to shoulder the burden of keeping a vigilant watch for schemes scams and gimmicks legislated to benefit everyone but "We the People". A mere cursory glance at America's legislative calendar will reveal an endless list of crisis to be mishandled until they can be put off again. Americans should be painfully aware by now, that "We the People" are completely on our own.
There is no representation for the regular guy and gal, there is no fairness, there is no counter balance to special interest and sadly, there is no fourth estate to expose the global oligarchy's oppressive intentions. Moving forward, Americans can no longer allow themselves to be played like pawns in a game designed for Kings.
If "We the People" want any future at all, a concerted effort must be made to continually educate ourselves while informing and inspiring others. The term sequestration should have been fully understood by all within days after its announcement. The fact that many in the mainstream media was still grappling with the concept until recently was hardly encouraging. That being said, ignorance in this day and age is no excuse.
