Two deer, a doe and her yearling, were walking across frozen Antigonish Harbour in Nova Scotia when the doe slipped and fell. For hours she struggled to gain her footing but just couldn't get up.
This whole thing happened in front of the house owned by Ian Waugh, who contacted the Provincial Department of Natural Resources to see if they could help the deer. Waugh also grabbed his camera.
They sent a helicopter with an experienced pilot, one who used a bit of skill to get the dear off the ice in a rather unique fashion.
If you watch until the end you will see the deer struggle to get to hear feet. Waugh told the CBC she was pretty stiff from her time on the ice but that she did get back with her fawn and all is well.
The Helicopter pilot said he's done this before.
Pretty nifty!
