Facebook's Join The Fight To Flush Rush Limbaugh, also known as, FlushRush is celebrating one year, and they have much to celebrate. This group that started off with a handful of members, has grown to over 7,900, and helped encourage approximately 2,500 Rush Limbaugh sponsors to pull ads from his show. Their facebook page formed after Limbaugh's three-day attack of college student, Sandra Fluke, who was advocating for mandated insurance coverage for birth control.
In case you missed it, here is ThinkProgress's compilation of Limbaugh's on-air attack.
One of the FlushRush core members was Daily Kos diarist, Richard Myers, who actively went after Limbaugh with a vengeance that spoke for the majority of Americans. Richard passed away suddenly last December and is greatly missed. His passing instilled an even stronger determination to finish this work.

Other facebook groups sprang up around the same time, and have greatly benefited the cause - I mention a few below. It was the FlushRush team, who teamed with StopRush, that began monitoring Limbaugh shows throughout the country. They documented ads in the StopRush database and posted them on their fb page. They contacted the sponsors, documented the responses and soon began to see the fruits of their labor. First hundreds, then thousands of sponsors, pulled their ads from Limbaugh's show. The number changes as some companies like Angie's List, LegalZoom, Quicken Books and ProFlowers, have gone back and forth to Limbaugh's show. Others like Lifelock, Lear Capitol, Herbal Life, Amberen… have remained loyal Limbaugh sponsors. (You can find contact information for these and other sponsors easily in the StopRush.net Database)

So here's to you, FlushRush and StopRush volunteers. This country is indebted to the hours you've given for no pay and little recognition. We also thank you for sending a 'Clear Message' to Clear Channel and all media networks that support hate mongers like Limbuagh, out there spreading racism, sexism, and gay-hating bigotry on our public airways. The work of FlushRush and StopRush.net has made it easy for anyone to find, search and contact Limbaugh sponsors and given us a way to actually do something. Please consider joining the cause.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

You can add a private note to this diary when hotlisting it:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary from your hotlist?
Are you sure you want to remove your recommendation? You can only recommend a diary once, so you will not be able to re-recommend it afterwards.
