When they exclude Transgender in the rights allotted to us. You know like the right to employment so we can eat and house ourselves. The right to housing. The right to vote, yes I've had that challenged because of my gender presentation.
Gender presentation: The outward expression of gender usually manifested in clothing and hair styles but is also expressed in posture and in speech patterns and vocalization.
Not really a quote since I made it up as I went along
But in this culture where women are seen as less than. There are even stricter rules that apply to gender presentation. They are universally applied to any woman that doesn't look like this:
And enforcement of these physical manifestations of gender serve to keep women insecure and unsure so socially they do not compete with males. But sometimes there are those of us that buck the 'rules' and present ourselves as male. In this culture that is usually met with violence.
“When he walked up thinking it was father and mom with the kid, he wasn’t as angry, but then when he figured out it was a female, he got like super pissed, and I don’t know why,” Causey told WFAA.“He was like, ‘Well if you think you’re a man… I’m going to treat you like a man,’” Causey told WFAA. “All she kept saying was, ‘I’m a female. I’m a female.” She never even had time to take her hands out of pockets to try and block herself.”
Scarber’s jaw is wired shut and her face is badly bruised. But Mesquite police haven’t caught the man responsible and told WFAA they don’t consider the assault a hate crime because the bullying among children was the reason behind it.
But the women insist it was hate crime because the father only became upset once he realized they were two women raising a son together.
Now Sondra identifies as a Lesbian, as is her right. But she does cross gender boundaries thus falls into the Transgender matrix. And this is why Transgender needs to be included in all civil rights laws. Because even Lesbians experience Transgender discrimination. As do effeminate Gay men. I know. I've experienced both depending on how I'm perceived.
So throwing Transgender people under the bus because you think our solution to gender dysphoria is icky is actually putting all gender variant people at risk.
I've tried contacting Sondra to see if she needs funds and to make her aware of legal opportunities available to her. I'll have to wait and see how she responds if at all.
