Well it sure isn't killing me. On the contrary, there would have been a greater likelihood of it killing me if Mitt Romney were in the White House today.
But this is possibly the very best schadenfruede left over from Mitt Romney's failed presidential run - it is killing him. Not being in that White House, solving those national problems.
Because you know, he would have done a much better job than President Obama is doing right now, with that whole sequester thing.
The sequester would have been 'solved' by now according to Ann Romney. Sure it would have, all the budget cuts the GOP wants would have been targeted at social safety net programs instead of defense - as they have been 'negotiating'.
Ann Romney said her husband, had he won, would have solved the sequester by now.
“I totally believe at this moment, if Mitt were there in the office, that we would not be facing sequestration right now,” she said.
Ha ha ha ha, yeah, 'solved'.
So this is the big quote from Fox News Sunday's interview with Republican failed presidential candidate Mitt Romney conducted earlier in the week, part of which was leaked, but this part was kept under wraps and not revealed until today. Here he is, not the least bit ashamed to not only admit defeat and envy, but also to boldly claim he'd be doing a better job right now.
“I’ll look at what’s happening right now, I wish I were there,” Mitt Romney said. “It kills me not to be there, not to be in the White House doing what needs to be done. The president is the leader of the nation. The president brings people together, does the deals, does the trades, knocks the heads together; the president leads. And – and I don’t see that kind of – of leadership happening right now”
Wow, how embarrassing.
So that's how 'leadership' is done: knocking heads around and telling people what to do. Come on President Obama - you can do it! I don't know what show Romney's been watching, (not the GWB Presidency, that's for sure) but I thought 'leadership' (Republican style) was lying to Americans to get the war you wanted, and writing legal memos to get the dictatorship you needed. Not, this bully pulpit stuff.
Romney, as have congressional Republicans, accused Obama of “campaigning” rather than governing as the sequester loomed. That, Romney said, has been counterproductive.
Right. He couldn't convince Americans to vote for him, but somehow he would be persuading legislators to pass his plans. Unlike that Obama, who did convince voters his ideas are better, but who is wasting his time trying to explain to Americans what will happen and persuade them to beseech their Congresspeople to act on behalf of them.
“Well, no one can think that that’s been a success for the president,” Romney said. “He didn’t think the sequester would happen. It is happening. To date, what we’ve seen is a — the president out campaigning to the American people, doing rallies around the country, flying around the country and berating Republicans and blaming and pointing. Now, what does that do? That causes the Republicans to — to retrench and to put up a wall and to fight back. It’s a very natural human emotion.”
And let's not overlook this unforgettable gem, as we bask in the glow of Mitt's misery. Ever since he spouted this during the campaign I've waited for the opportunity to remind Mitt that he said this, and it probably doesn't get any better than right now:
