Apparently, the European Union is discussing a legislative act that will ban all pornography in "media." The wording of this "media" is, as appropriate, not defined under the act itself, and goes out of its way to expressly ban porn on the Internet, under the guise of "eliminating gender stereotypes."
If this sounds familiar, good - you have a functioning sense of pattern recognition.
This legislative act's wording encompasses not only images, but text, sound, drawn materials, etc. Writers of horrible slash-fics and erotic fiction would be targetted the same way the actual porn industry is under the auspices of this legislative act - and, what do you know? it puts the policing for this porn ban in the hands of several private companies, without oversight or restraint. What a goddamned surprise.
Whilst the chances of it actually passing are small (and even if it does, it's not legally binding), this should be cause for alarm. Make no mistake, this is a real issue, and it's going to be voted on on Tuesday.
European Kossacks, start sending angry emails. This cannot be allowed to pass.
