More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

You can add a private note to this diary when hotlisting it:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary from your hotlist?

(The diary will be removed from the site and returned to your drafts for further editing.)
(The diary will be removed.)
Are you sure you want to save these changes to the published diary?

No corpses of innocents.  That might've made it a 10.

Dogs from the street can have all the desirable qualities that one could want from pet dogs. Most adopted stray dogs are usually humble and exceptionally faithful to their owners as if they are grateful for this kindness. -- H.M. Bhumibol Adulyadej

Every birthday of her life has been celebrated with US troops fighting in Afghanistan. Assuming we really get out (and don't wind up in Iran) she'll be 14 before that's no longer true.

You can't assassinate the character of any of modern conservative. You'd have to find where it was buried, dig it up, resurrect it, then kill it. And killing a zombie isn't really assassination, is it?

I told all my friends that we'd be there for ten years--and we'd still lose.

It is simply impossible to use military means to win political conflicts.  That lesson has been forcibly rammed into our skull in every war since Vietnam, but we still stubbornly refuse to listen.

And now we repeat it again by throwing drones at anyone and everyone we don't like.

As a society, we have soundproof heads.

    it should have been:

If this link works and you look at it (google search is mcchrystal powerpoint afghanistan), down in the lower left corner of the image is a clue to why all this shit happens. The Big Picture was developed by a British "consultancy" who got paid a couple of million bucks for the effort. I know, just chump change when fuel delivered to "the front" costs us taxpayers, eventually, some $460 a gallon. But the "PA Knowledge Limited" ltd has the balls to claim a COPYRIGHT for this "work for hire." Does the military pay a fucking royalty every time this thing gets shown to Big Smart General? Or is this a "retired" graphic?

    For another take: http://www.guardian.co.uk/...

There was this computer, WOPR, in that silly movie "War Games," that was actually so smart that it figured it all out, from playing all the possible variations and working from a notion of the 'national interest' that apparently is totally foreign to our fucking rulers: "The only way to win is not to play the game."

To all the warmongers and neocons and the folks who are at this moment planning the scenarios for "kicking Iran's ass," and being all set to collect and control all the data in the world to figure out how to control the rest of us Stupids, from a Vietnam vet fighting for a disability rating from the VA: FUCK YOU. FUCK ALL OF YOU. I HOPE YOU DIE FROM SOME KIND OF HORRIBLE CANCER. EVERY FUCKING ONE OF YOU. FUCK YOU IN EVERY POSSIBLE ORIFICE, WITH EVERY KIND OF BLADE AND PHALLIC TOTEM.

But then since us kindly squishy progressives are too soft and fearful to "take up arms against a sea of troubles, I guess we will be once again under the bus...

where have all the soldiers gone? gone to graveyards, everyone...war-what is it good for? absolutely nothing...blood rack barbed wire politician's funeral pyre innocents raped with napalm fire. twenty-first century schizoid man...suicide, too many bills, hippies moving to the hills, people all over the world are shouting 'end the war' and the band played on...evil man make you kill me. evil man make me kill you. even though we're only families apart...clear the battlefield and let me see all the profits from our victory...politicians hide themselves away. they only started the war. why should they go out to fight? they leave that role to the poor...death defying mutilated armies scatter the earth. crawling out of dirty holes, their morals disappear...war is over-if you want it. war is over now...father, father we don't need to escalate. you see, war is not the answer, for only love can conquer hate...and god lives in underground silos, hanging on for judgement day. if we don't open our eyes pretty soon, then the dark ages'll be here to stay...i'm living with war in my heart everyday. i'm living with war right now.
