Well, here I am, folks,in Santiago Chile. End of the first day here (Thursday)
My son has a new house from where he's been the last 2 times. The one he had got sold out from underneath him. So he got a better one. Closer in, better house, more parking.
My DIL has cousins visitning and there's still a bedroom for me (and all these toys.)
I left Oregon with a backpack and a rollybag. the rolly bag was stuffed with clothes, toys and books, it was all kid stuff. The only things I brought for myself were in the backpack.
I had an empty seat next to me the whole way down, this was cool, almost like first class. Pick up was fine, son has a new truck. Both of his restaurants are still doing good, California Cantina especially. My niece and I ate there tonight, its still good. Its lots of fun to eat at a good restaurant and then its free. Fatherhood finally pays off at last.
Boy have my granddaughters grown since last year. Sigrid is now 3.5 and Lulu (Lucianna) is almost 2. Theyre both little dolls, really cute and fun. Sigrid is really conversational and she can run faster than Grandpa. Lulu is just gettingf conversational now. She's a real climber. Like all the womern in the exlrrp family, they are smart, athletic and beautiful.
I speak English to them because my son wants me to. they grow up learning Spanish but he wants them to know what English sounds like and to speak it too. My DIL speaks very little English but she's learning. You can learn a lot just by reading chidren's books in other languages.
Looking forward to doing a little traveling, going up north. We have a Chilean family and friends here and they want to show me the country. OK by me. We'rte going up north past Antofagasta. This is up close to the Atacama desert. This is so dry there's never been any recorded moisture.
This will mean Ive been to all the main areas of Chile but Patagonia (think: Straits of Magellan and Tierra del Fuego)
(exlrrp travel hint: never go anywhere named Tierra Del Fuego, Land of Fire)
Well, the computer's working OK but not the camera so I can't post pictures yet. But I will soon.
UPDATE
Ok, its Saturday. we just got done having the Easter (Pascua) egg hunt. we did this bbecause my niece Katie (who took these pictures) is leaving for the USA today. My niece is like a sister to my son, they were raised about 3 blocks apart in Chico, CA. She's like my own daughter. She'll be back in 2 weeks. she's going to stay with my mom in Berkeley, who was just diagnosed with terminal cancer, already hospice condition.
My niece is a freelance writer, whose name appears in Scientific American most but plenty of other places too, including but not limited to The International Dredging News
Ok, the promised pictures
this first one is me, Si-Si (Sigrid) and Lulu (Lucianna.) Grandpa went along on thre Easter egg hunt too. 2d one is Sigrid. 3d one is them both. This is at Dan's house.
These are 2 real characters! Easy to see who's family they are in.
Morning Open Thread can begin now.
