Finally, a Republican senator joins Rob Portman in endorsing marriage equality,
Mark Kirk:
When I climbed the Capitol steps in January, I promised myself that I would return to the Senate with an open mind and greater respect for others.
Same-sex couples should have the right to civil marriage. Our time on this earth is limited, I know that better than most. Life comes down to who you love and who loves you back-- government has no place in the middle.
That means 50 senators now support marriage–48 Democrats and 2 Republicans. If you want to get technical, as of now Vice President Biden does break the tie, but then again, if this were a vote, Republicans would surely filibuster. But that aside, the next senator to support equality will put a majority of the United States Senate on the right side of history. Who will it be?
