I love hearing from conservatives that the country is center -right. We just need to focus on their messaging, they say, next time we'll get it right. As if spending 1.2 billion dollars isn't enough money to get their message across...
How bad are Republicans faring with the American people? Even the state of Louisiana disapproves of their proposals. Of course, I'm hyperbolic in calling it a liberal state, but it goes to show just how low the Republican Party is in the eyes of the people.
Politico reports that a poll by Southern Media and Opinion Research shows that Bobby Jindal's approval rating has sunk from 51% to 38% since last October.
So what happened in between? "According to the survey, Jindal’s abrupt decline has to do with the governor’s handling of health care and taxes"
Nearly two thirds, 63 percent, opposed the governor’s tax swap proposal, which eliminates state income taxes but increases sales taxes, while only 27 percent supported the plan. A larger majority, 75 percent, were even more dissatisfied with public health care, saying they found little or no progress in the state’s system.
Sometimes, I read Redstate, where they champion the sales tax with the pitch that it's "simpler and fairer". They think this is a popular idea, and that it's their ticket to victory. But, of course, a sales tax only increases the burden of middle and low income people, since they have to pay more for necessary goods. It boggles the mind, that Republicans think it's popular, but as they say- it's their funeral.
And the best news, Barack Obama has a better approval rating than Jindal, "with a 43 percent job approval rating, putting him five percentage points ahead of the governor."
It's time for the Republicans to finally wake up to reality. The messaging is not the problem, the policies are the problem.
