This past December, a disturbing image of our was included in several news publications, both in print and on television. The image depicted our son being led away from his high school, in handcuffs.
Our first steps were to get our son released from detention, to address the criminal charge, and then to fight the school district's attempt to expel him.
We prevailed in court, and our son did return to his school. During his first week back, as part of an assignment for his photography class, he made a self portrait on campus. For us, there is much that is poignant in the image, which is an admittedly subjective association.
With his permission, we are sharing our son's self portrait with you, because we refuse to let the December news photo be the final public image of our son, in relation to his school years.
Coming soon, the full text of the judge's decision, released.
