America's new retirement plan
Nixon has gone to China. Democratic president, big city black guy who grew up middle class on top of it, goes after the one program that used to be considered the "third rail of American politics." Because really, what other political leader would actually propose cutting Social Security as a means to cutting the deficit? Or for
any reason?
The last president who left office at 27 percent proposed privatizing two percent of Social Security and was immediately trashed. Not even cutting it, just privatizing it. But here we have it. Not only a Democratic president, but just proposing a straight-up cut. To current beneficiaries at that.
Truly, good people, a line has been crossed.
Because if this president is willing to go after Social Security, the one federal program that is solvent, then there is truly nothing that is sacrosanct in terms of government that benefits ordinary people. Excepting, of course, a massive giveaway to the health insurance industry as government now acts as their chief salesperson. That will be preserved ... at least until the next Republican president. Which is probably now coming sooner than we think.
So if you are, say, a GenX'r who is probably looking at zero retirement savings now that you've been through the 401(k) scam, guess what, my friend? You have nobody, and I mean nobody in government who gives a shit about what happens to you. You think this is the last Social Security cut? Ha! A bus has left the station and you're under it.
Reality. It bites sucks.
