(h/t to Anima for bringing this to my attention.)
Republican Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, 2 of his republican associates and 3 Democrats have out forth a bill that goes to the heart of the problem with the Federal Government: the Controlled Substance Act. It gives them quite a bit of power to ignore state laws when it wants to. It also lets them 'classify' marijuana as a very dangerous drug with no medical use.
This is why the Feds hate medical marijuana. A glorified memo that enforces a known lie.
Limiting the 'power' of the CSA is the next step in making things work right.
The measure would amend the Controlled Substances Act to make clear that individuals and businesses, including marijuana dispensaries, who comply with state marijuana laws are immune from federal prosecution.
We all know the federal government's vicious fixation on marijuana: this bill is clearly seeking to mitigate that.
"This bipartisan bill represents a common-sense approach that establishes federal government respect for all states' marijuana laws," Rohrabacher said in a news release. "It does so by keeping the federal government out of the business of criminalizing marijuana activities in states that don't want it to be criminal."
Eighteen states and the District of Columbia have medical marijuana laws, and two states, Washington and Colorado, last fall became the first to pass laws legalizing, taxing and regulating marijuana.
Currently,
The Feds are making Oregon turn over medical marijuana patient records because they think there is
probable cause to believe that records from the Oregon Medical Marijuana Program will contain evidence and instrumentalities of marijuana manufacturing and trafficking and conspiracy to commit marijuana manufacturing and trafficking offenses
Please roll your clocks back to 1955. Reefer Madness lives.
I am not saying there isn't some sort of malfeasance going on; I am asking why the Feds can be so singularly focused on THAT malfeasance when it ISN'T HURTING YOU and there is plenty of malfeasance on WALL STREET that is hurting you.
Do they have to spend certain money or lose it? Nah... it's ideology. The ONLY thing that will trump cashflow is ideology.
The Feds focus on attacking medical marijuana because it conflicts with the ideology enshrined in the CSA. Marijuana prohibition is fascism in a very pure form, codified in the CSA. The CSA says marijuana cant have any medical application, medical marijuana las are a direct conflict with that and the Feds are spending YOUR MONEY to lie to you and threaten you if you don't act like you agree with their bullshit memo.
That's fascism.
It's long past time for change, the Federal Government finds keeping things prohibited is in its best interest, everybody else can just skid.
We can applaud this bipartisan effort because it starts chipping away at a main part of the problem: the power of the so-called CSA and it's bullshit falsehoods.
By the way..... if Republicans want to rebrand.... this is a fine example.
Republican Reps. Justin Amash of Michigan and Don Young of Alaska and Democratic Reps. Earl Blumenauer of Oregon, Steve Cohen of Tennessee and Jared Polis of Colorado co-sponsored Rohrabacher's bill.
That's how you get normal people to like you.
