The French Broad River, Asheville, NC
Good morning!
This is the weekly DKos Asheville open thread series that randallt and I try to deliver every Saturday morning. We would like this to become a hub for talking about our 4/20 meet up (that's just one week from today!), to help make it a great event for everyone. So please come say hi, talk about food, talk about what you would like to see at the gathering or what you would like to see us all get out of this opportunity. And for those not coming (we know you want to but you've chained yourself to the fence in front of the White House), ideas are always welcome.
We would also like this series to reinvigorate us locally and regionally here on Daily Kos, building on the sense of community that's grown through our online engagement. DKos Asheville can give us all a better sense of connection, a better understanding of who these people are that we stand with, work with, and share with in the political process. We hope, through this meet up, that we can do a better job of leveraging our orange passion for progressive politics to help elect more and better Democrats.
The official start time for the meetup will be 1:00, although some of you might want to show up earlier to help setup. Randall mentioned on the radio show that kayakers sometimes grab the good spots there at the Bywater, so getting there early to stake claims on real estate seems part of the plan as well. There are directions at the link for those who have no idea where the place is.
The Bywater is a membership club, but I think the plan is that we're all going to say we're guests of Randall; so he'll be the responsible party.
Oh, and Randall says that the Bywater is a great place for playing music, so if you are so inclined, bring your guitars and banjos! He's also getting together gift bags, and he's planning on doing a call in to the local progressive talk radio show.
And T-shirts! Randall has a line on a great price for local shirts with a cool DKos Asheville logo. He's sent out Kosmails for reservation requests but you can also give him a yes here in the diary. And they're just $10! Oh and SteelerGrrl is planning to bring some tie dye supplies too, which should be fun.
So this is it; just one week to our first meetup. It will be fun, interesting, entertaining, and hopefully of some benefit as well. Those of you who like taking pictures might want to bring a camera along, and hopefully we can post some pics here and in the New Day diary.
If you have questions or suggestions, please post 'em.
And we'll be seeing you soon!
Hi folks! The extended weather forecast shows a sunny day in Asheville next Saturday, 4/20! So here's the recipe: Clear skies, Mid to high 60's, flowers and trees blooming all over, a gathering of Kossacks having fun making connections beside a big beautiful river called the French Broad. Mix in music, tie dye T-shirts, local progressive politicians, local progressive radio, a great mix of food and beverage. Stir. Bake at 67° with a light breeze for the afternoon and voila, Kossackistan in Asheville!
It looks like at least twenty on the register for sure with more in the wings. If you are one of those who has signed up as a maybe, but can't quite commit yet, let me warm up the offer. I mentioned entertainment in last Saturday's post, asking folks to bring musical stuff. Please do, the more the better. In addition though, THERE WILL BE FIRE!
Yes folks that's right, I'll be juggling a wide variety of objects including flaming torches. Don't worry, I am a professional. Don't try this at home! And that's not all, I will be placing flaming torches in my mouth because I am also a world famous fire eater! Nope, not kidding. You'll want to be there. :)
Please send me a kosmail at randallt if you have any questions, concerns or ideas. If you live in or near Asheville and need transportation, we can help with that too.
Have a great Saturday everyone! See you on 4/20!
