As many of you already know, Mark Sanford, the former Governor of South Carolina, will be called in to see a Judge and respond to allegations that he was caught breaking and entering his ex-wife's house without permission in violation of a previous court order. The trespassing and the complaint filing occurred some time ago, but news of the whole thing just broke last night. He is scheduled to appear in court on May 9, 2013, which is two days after his special election in South Carolina's First District (SC-01) against Elizabeth Colbert Busch.
News of the incident and court complaint has been picked up around the globe, including such outlets as Politico, the Associated Press, the Daily Mail (UK) and The New York Times.
Knowing that news of this incredibly creepy incident might show up any day, you would think that Mark Sanford would be careful with his twitter account. Yes, you would think that. Well, here's a little Scottish boy to let you know if he did or if he did not:
Of course Mark Sanford would have some unintentionally hilarious tweets, which you can see right here on his official page. Here are a couple screengrabs of actual tweets that stand out for their unintentional hilarity:
The link on the tweet leads you to a mailer from Stephen Colbert, as he invites support for his sister, Elizabeth Colbert Busch, in her campaign. The mailer shows a picture of the Democratic siblings. Of course, those fine, upstanding people do not share the values of trans-continental adultery:
Nor does Ms. Colbert Busch and Mr. Colbert share the values involved in breaking and entering:
Mark Sanford's unintentional hilarity included casting aspersions about what his opponent was up to when his own whereabouts and scheduling should be called into question:
Both of the Sanford tweets above are actual tweets from the candidate and not a hoaxer. They were both tweeted one day before the world learned about his moonlighting escapades as a burglar. The following tweet also arrived the day before the news broke, and maybe my irony/sarcasm detector is broken because Sanford re-tweeted it, but it has the words "Sinners" and "values" (lowercase "v") and the phrase "walked the walk" in it:
Whether that tweet is legitimate or not, who knows, but before I let you go, here is where you can help out
Elizabeth Colbert Busch's campaign. I have only seen one poll in this race, a PPP poll, and it had Colbert Busch in the lead by two percentage points (
47-45)
before the "breaking and entering" news caught fire. A win here would be almost as monumental as creepy Scott Brown's win in the Massachusetts Senate special election of 2010, except there is no pro-ObamaCare mania sweeping the State of South Carolina right now. (Believe me on this.) Finally, a very fun tweet from a very funny guy:
