Republican Congressman Jeff Duncan of the 3rd Congressional District of South Carolina took right-wing lunacy to a new level during a hearing in which Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano gave testimony on the Department of Homeland Security's budget:
You know, when Forbes Magazine or Drudge or some reputable news sources start to repeat the numbers…the numbers cease to become Internet rumors and they start having some credibility. I just ask, why was there a long delay or silence from the DHS for a period of time, almost three months, before y’all came forward saying these numbers aren’t correct, these are the actual facts. Why was there a delay or silence from your department?
Here's Napolitano's response to Duncan's lunacy:
Well I don’t know about that, that there was that kind of delay, but I will tell you we found it so inherently unbelievable that those statements would be made it was hard to ascribe credibility to them. I don’t know if I’d put Forbes and Drudge in the same sentence.
Duncan was referring to an unfounded conspiracy theory, which is being pushed by the notorious right-wing website Drudge Report, that claims that the Department of Homeland Security is stockpiling ammunition for a "false flag" attack on the American people.
Anyone who considers Drudge to be a credible source lives in a different view of reality than us rational people do. Drudge directs its viewers to WorldNetDaily, which is notorious about pushing those unfounded "birther" conspiracy theories about President Obama's citizenship, and Infowars, which has pushed an unfounded conspiracy theory which claims that the Boston Marathon bombing was perpetrated by the government.
I've been critical of President Obama and many other Democrats for not being progressive enough, but these Republicans are downright delusional these days...
