My apologies to Mr Dylan, surely he would approve. The DKos Asheville meet up is this Saturday and the weather is looking sunny and a little cool, high in the low sixties. Spring in the mountains, nothing like it.
Over twenty five kindred souls have signed up to come to The Bywater in Asheville on 4/20. There is a real easy schedule to follow during the event. See details below.
1:00 pm - DKos Asheville meet up begins
Later - DKos Asheville meet up concludes.
This is Asheville after all. The cool stuff is under the orangee.
TIE DYE!
SteelerGrrl sends the following for anyone who wants to get their DFH on. I was going to get orange tees until she suggested orange tie dye instead. We have 25 shirts and less than half are pre orders.....hint hint.
Greetings all! As you may have heard, I am planning to bring my tie dyes to the Asheville meetup. If you're going and want to play, here are a few things to know:
1. If you are ordering shirts from Randall that you'd like to dye, they must be pre-washed in order to take the dye well. I will do that at a laundromat Saturday morning so they're damp and ready to go for the meetup. If for any reason you do NOT want your shirt(s) prewashed, please let me know by 8am Saturday. You can use kosmail or my email, karmachris43@gmail.com.
2. I will have sufficient supplies to tie dye at least 100 shirts. Feel free to bring a few shirts or other small items you'd like to liven up (hats, bandannas, tote bags, etc.) I'll help you fold them if you ask :)
3. The fiber-reactive dyes we'll be using only work well with natural fibers. Your dyeables should be 100% cotton, rayon, linen, or hemp. Nothing terrible will happen if you dye a 50-50 poly-cotton shirt, but the colors won't be as vivid and will fade with normal washing. Launder and dry your dyeables before the meetup, in hot water if possible.
4. Tie dyeing is messy! The dyes aren't toxic, but a splash can stain your skin for days and your clothes forever. I will have non-latex gloves and fluid resistant aprons available. I usually only wear a mask when pre-mixing the dyes and chemicals, but I will bring a few if anyone prefers to wear one.
5. The dye should set for at least 24 hours before being rinsed and washed out. I have ample large freezer bags for taking your works of art home, and will supply instructions for washing and care.
Feel free to contact me with any questions. Safe travels to Asheville ... SteelerDude, woozles Ilsa and Jaco, and I are all looking forward to meeting y'all!
Peace,
Christine (SteelerGrrl)
ENTERTAINMENT
Don't forget to bring musical instruments and your voice. We may bust out in song, you never know. Personally I like musicals, your mileage may vary. And as promised I will certainly be putting flaming torches in my mouth for your amusement as well as juggling a variety of dangerous objects including kittens. (Kidding about the kittens, even though they would be pretty darn dangerous.)
POLITICS
Let's just talk. Asheville City Council will be represented by my friend Gordon Smith, a great local progressive voice. He is the founder of Asheville's oldest and best political blog, Scrutiny Hooligans. Gordon has led the charge for equality here in Ashville for many years.
FOOD AND BEVERAGE
The Bywater is a private club on the river that serves beer, wine and liquor. We will be gathering outside around a few big picnic tables and grills. Please bring anything and everything you want to grill or snack on. Sandwich makings, sweets, pastry, watermelon. If you think someone might eat it? Well there you go. Think of it as a picnic. Coolers, folding chairs, blankets, ants.
There is always one of several great food trucks parked right outside the fence on Saturdays and there is a resident outdoor food tent with seperate grills for meat and veggies.
DOGS
Bring em if ya got em! (strict leash)
