Jeff Bauman, the man at the center of one of the more iconic and upsettingly gory photos from the Boston Marathon bombing, came to in the hospital remembering the bombing—and the man who left the bag containing the bomb. Bauman lost both legs below the knee and was photographed in a wheelchair as rescuers took him to help, an image that went viral so quickly it was how
his family learned of his injuries.
In the hospital,
“He woke up under so much drugs, asked for a paper and pen and wrote, ‘bag, saw the guy, looked right at me,’” [his brother] Chris Bauman said yesterday in an interview. [...]
While still in intensive care, Bauman gave the FBI a description of the man he saw, his brother said. Bauman’s information helped investigators narrow down whom to look for in hours of video of the attack, he said.
The FBI, which isn't commenting on specific tips in the investigation, isn't confirming or denying that report.
Jeff Bauman faces a long road to recovery, having lost both legs below the knee. And in the United States, a long road to recovery after injury means major medical bills. Friends have set up fundraisers for Bauman; you can contribute here.
