Two brothers allegedly participated in a bombing at the Boston marathon, which resulted in three deaths and over 170 injured. It appears that the two suspects engaged in gun battle with police (early Friday morning) at MIT (in Boston), resulting in the death of a police officer and one of the suspects.
As a result the entire city of Boston is shut down!
Shelter in place, indeed. This is the way it works. Yes, something as horrible as the Boston marathon bombing happens, and it is indeed terrifying, and as citizens we expect the police to investigate the crime, to identify suspects, to apprehend them, and bring them to justice.
But is it reasonable to shut down an entire city? Is it reasonable to order the media not to report something? Is it reasonable to see hundreds (thousands?) of security personnel in our streets in military-style uniforms, carrying military-style weapons?
All this for two guys?
What's going to look like when tens of thousands of people take to the streets in huge massive protests around the country, in response to the ongoing pillaging and looting by the ruling class?
They wouldn't deploy a militarized police against peaceful protesters right? Oh, wait...
UPDATE: FRI APR 19, 2013 AT 4:00 PM PDT - Okay, so it appears that the city shut down has been lifted. Now, all those who were saying that shutting down an entire city because the suspect hadn't been caught yet, what is your reaction now? This was an overreach, a total overreaction. Stay tune for the media hand-wringing.
