This is a short diary, but I just thought I'd post the good news.
The Delaware House has approved the marriage equality bill that was up for consideration in a 23-18 vote. The bill now moves to the Senate. I can't find a good analysis of what the picture looks like in the Senate, but if somebody knows, feel free to post in the comments, and I will amend the diary. Governor Jack Markell has vowed to sign the bill.
Delaware already offers civil unions to same-sex couples, but this bill would give the same rights and benefits--not to mention dignity--to these couples as to heterosexual couples.
Bravo, Delaware!
In other marriage equality news, the marriage equality bill up for consideration in Rhode Island cleared a hurdle today. The Rhode Island Senate Judiciary Committee voted 7-4 to approve the bill. It now heads to the full Senate, where all five Republican state senators have pledged to support it. If it passes, Governor Lincoln Chafee plans to sign it.
France, Delaware, Rhode Island...it's looking like a great week for marriage equality. And an awful week for the haters.
