What do you want to talk about? I'm thinking about water and summer!
It will be May next Wednesday which kinda blows my mind. Smileycreek has been sending me things that she'd written on DailyKos one year ago at this time. As I read them, well, it kinda blows my mind too because one year ago seems like it could have been an entirely different lifetime, not just last year. What I do know is that I've got to be the luckiest guy on the planet for everything and everyone...and that really blows my mind.
Fortunately, smileycreek and I had a plan for an activity last summer we thought would be perfect for when we both knew we'd be fried (for me literally)...and when I'd still be pretty weak. I sold my mountain bike then spent that money getting an inflatable kayak. Here's a pic of the very same inflatable kayak we have (those folks are not us):
I want to go kayaking really soon. We only started doing that last summer and I love it. There is just nothing so calm and pleasant as paddling around on a lake. We have gotten the routine down so well it only takes about 7 minutes to inflate the kayak (using an electric pump and the car battery) then push off from the shore. Once in the water it's untroubled serene certainty. If you are anywhere near a body of water and you'd like a quick and easy way to exhale and let go...get a kayak. We only have to drive 15 minutes from our home to get to Paradise Lake, which is very cool.
We've seen River Otter's more than half the time we've gone kayaking. Once we saw seven of them...two parents and their five pups. The pups make cute almost bird-like chirping noises. The parents, once they got glimpse of us, made disapproving harrumphing snorting noises. They were mostly just miffed because they kept swimming towards us with their pups. They dive underwater for a while then pop up somewhere else. They simply passed us by in the lake clearly not feeling we were dangerous to them.
And that reminds me how much we also love going to the rivers and swimming in our favorite swimming holes too. Our favorite and closest ones are on the West Fork of the Feather River:
So, do you do outdoor water sports stuff in the warm seasons?

Cheers & Jeers-* New Day * Dinner
TIME: 5:30 PM
LOCATION: The Brit (Britannia Arms)
173 W. Santa Clara St. (walking distance from Conv. Center) • Downtown San Jose
Every year since 2007, Common Sense Mainer has organized a dinner for the readers of Cheers & Jeers who attend Netroots Nation. It has grown every year. Last year we had over 100 Kossacks attend. CSM always chooses a restaurant willing to handle a large crowd WITH SEPARATE CHECKS. (!?!) Yes, I know, hard to believe but it's worked the last several years. This year CSM has negotiated with The Brit for a special menu and separate checks are secured. If you'd like to join us please leave a comment in this diary and you'll be put on the RSVP list below. This year * New Day * and SFKossacks are co-hosting. All regional groups are invited to attend in addition to the loyal C&J following that Bill and Michael have.
ORGANIZER: Send navajo a kosmail to attend or leave a comment.
The plenary table list below will also be the RSVP list for this event. Dinner attendees will have an asterisk by their name.

Community Quilt Project NN13 Flash Mob Photo
smileycreek is organizing and asking all Community Quilt recipients to bring their quilts to NN13. We'll assemble at a pre-designated location and time for a group photo with one of the NN13 professional photographers. It will be a group hug celebrating one of the most beloved community building projects we have here at Daily Kos with Sara R and winglion at the center of it. navajo and Glen the Plumber are going to scout out and select a location in advance for all to meet with their quilts for a memorable photo opportunity. Stay tuned.
