Remember how inundated Bush was with requests to campaign for fellow Republicans these last few elections?

Neither do I.

Being on the receiving end of so much love these days with the opening of his new library, we'll surely see Republicans lining up en masse to get his blessing and beg him to do fundraisers for them come 2014. First things first, however, and in this day and age, all good revisionism starts with merchandise.

Before we get to the subject hinted at in the title of the diary, a brief recap is in order, to further put on the record how Republicans really feel about their former president — just in case collective amnesia should again conveniently overcome the Republican Party once campaign season 2014 officially kicks off.

I provided in a diary yesterday this screencap of the RNC webpage that was set up for people to say “thank you” to George Bush for his service to the country:

As you can see, the box allowing a personal message of gratitude has been mysteriously omitted. But if you leave your email address, the RNC will gladly add you as a signatory to whatever prefabricated tribute they've concocted in honor of, apparently, The Greatest President in History.

Today they went a step further: Not only can you land your email address on a fundraising list of the sort they seem to think Democrats were aspiring to with their Boston Marathon Bombing First Responder “thank you” initiative, you can now buy a bumper sticker for your car, allowing you to show the world just how much you appreciate the unmitigated disaster that was the Bush presidency:
Once customers complete their shopping, they'll hopefully find on the checkout screen, along with standard payment and shipping options, various “Cadillac” car insurance policies that cover vandalism — at special “Bush-Loving Patriot” discount rates for registered Republicans, of course. Pimpin' these stickers on their rides would seem to me to be a rather risky thing to do, but Bush's approval ratings are rising for some reason, so I'll be prepared to admit my error should the spectre of bashed-in car windows prove to be nonexistent.

Still, I almost want to buy one of these stickers so I can get a closer look at it. There's bound to be some kind of barely-visible fine print similar to this:

DISCLAIMER: The RNC™, GOP™, Republican Party™ are not responsible for any damage resulting from the use of this product. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.
In any event, the GOP's embrace of a man that, up until a few days ago, they've done their level best to disassociate from, is duly noted.

Memo to Democrats: Please use these images liberally.

Memo to GOP Sales & Marketing: Mugs, t-shirts, and baseball caps?

.........

8:36 PM PT: DO NOT buy one, unless you want to be contributing to the RNC. :)

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
