A question for the Flush Rush group. What, if any, is the connection between Rush Limbaugh and Apple? He read an ad today that started with how great the iphone is and then went into a blinds.com ad.

I sent blinds.com an email:

I really wish you would reconsider this. I heard one this morning on KFBK Sacramento at 10:35. He read a prerecorded, scripted commercial where he started talking about how great iphones are and how he wished he could talk about them everyday and then, really lamely, went into a "just like Blinds.com" thing.

My first thought was that Apple was running commercials on the Rush Limbaugh show but apparently he was just using the iphone brand to promote add credence to his Blinds.com ad.

Did Blinds.com approve this?

I'm also going to contact Apple and ask if they're aware that their iphone product is being by used by Limbaugh in a Blinds.com ad.

Limbaugh's a low life. Why do you associate with him and his show?

Now, after checking a bit more online it seems there may be some relationship with Limbo and Apple. Even if they do have some promotion relationship, I can't believe they would let their brand be used in a promo for a dumbass blinds.com ad.

I'm a mac user and apple customer and I'll contact them but I thought it would be better to get some input from some of the experts here first.

As always, appreciate any education or advice offered.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

  •  Limbaugh has always loved Apple products (6+ / 0-)

He was an early Mac convert and gushes about all his Apple products. Apple has never paid Limbaugh one nickle for advertising, or done anything other than ignore him.

No rich person likes poor people.  Apple contracts iPhone manufacture out to Chinese sweatshops; Bill Gates wants to kill public education; the Koch brothers wake up in the morning.

In these cases, it is the classlessness that trumps all.

Apple has done more than any other company to improve worker conditions in China, and is more transparent about the actual situation than any other company.
I imagine Rush will never go full iOS, because Apple's "walled garden" would prohibit him from accessing whatever perverted porn he is into.
Steve Jobs backed Obama. Gates & Ballmer always went with repubes in hopes of better treatment from the DOJ.

brand to be used in a commercial for an unrelated product, blinds.com? Is that common? I had always thought they were very protective of their image/brand.
I'm not arguing here, just trying to get more info.

I think he was just trying to tell his audience that he loves blinds.com as much as he loves his Apple products. Given that Apple has never been an advertiser, I don't know if there is anything they could do.

I've heard him a few times complaining in conspiratorial tones about social media ganging up on Apple to destroy the brands image, "it's all a bunch of lies!"  My bullshit radar keeps going off when he starts babbling about this stuff...

He's also given away a bunch of iPads and other apple gear to his favorite callers, IIRC

This is how Flush Rush makes a difference.  By monitoring the Rush Limbaugh show on various radio stations and reporting the advertisers to a database.  Then we contact those advertisers to let them know where their ad appears.  Many of them are appalled and have their ad withdrawn immediately.
If you listen to KFBK live, you could help by noting sponsors for us.  That way we could contact them and help YOU Flush Rush.
As far as Apple goes, Rush is just trying to be hip.  IMHO

    •  I sometimes listen to the KFBK broadcast for just (0+ / 0-)

that reason and contact local sponsors. So far here in Sacramento its Sunrise Natural Foods in Roseville and Mattress Studio on Fulton Ave in Sac.
I've contacted some national advertisers that I've had some dealings with, proflowers, angies list and a couple others. I contacted Blinds.com today specifically because I thought it odd that Limbaugh would use an Apple reference to lead in the ad. I thought there might be a way to approach it from the angle of unauthorized use of Apple brand.
I did try to see what info I could get from the Flush Rush page but I'm not a FB user and hoped some on from the Flush Rush group here could advise. Maybe you could tell me how to participate more productively.

      •  I wondered too, whether there is relationship, (0+ / 0-)

given the hype he gives them. You might be interested in this blogger's take on the issue: http://www.brandchannel.com/....  And thanks for the contacting you are doing - I'm in the Facebook group, and we've found like others before us on similar efforts, contacts from customers have the most impact. When you don't have time to listen, you can find the active, local KFBK sponsors here: http://stoprush.net/...

So I'd say please keep on with what you're doing. Every contact helps!  I often use email or website contact forms to contact sponsors, which it makes it easy to fit into my schedule. The Facebook group eases communication of responses you get, but it isn't essential. Please feel free to message me here if you get a response you'd like to share. Personally, I stay away from contacting gun shops and gold/coin sellers. They're often quite unhappy about the contact, and quite delighted to sponsor him.  Most of the rest are at least polite, but I use a non-identifyng email account for the contacts to keep it separate from the rest of my life, just in case!
