Welcome to the Tuesday Coffee Hour here on Street Prophets. This is an open thread where we can hang out and talk about what’s going on in our worlds. Since today is May Eve (a special day for some of us), I thought it might be interesting to start off our discussion with Beltane.
Beltane is an ancient Celtic festival. It marks the beginning of summer and is held to enhance the fertility of the crops and the animals. In Ireland, Beltane was traditionally a fire festival. At this time, a fire would be ignited on the summit of the Hill of Tara by the High King. This fire would then be used as the source of all other fires.
While Beltane is often seen as being synonymous with May Day, the actual date is nearer to May 5 or 7 (this varies from year to year).
This is an open thread. Feel free to talk about what’s happening in your life, what you’ve been thinking about, how you plan to celebrate Beltane, and, most important, what’s for dinner.
