News & Opinion
This is one of the Occupy Wall Street May Day posters from their facebook page. They provided a Tumblr page, maydaynyc.tumblr.com, with full resolution PDFs for printing and encourage everyone to spread them far and wide. Protest art at its best. There are a number of different groups coming together for May Day this year in NYC and all across the country and the world. This site, May Day NYC has a lot of different information about the NYC events and a set of helpful links and seems to be a hub, created by the very much alive folks of Occupy Wall Street.
As is typical for May Day and other events, you'll find several different versions of the event schedule. This one is from the OccupyWallSt.org site (which has been very hard to reach for the past couple of days).

The OWS People's Puppets, featuring Lady Liberty, have been at every OWS related event I've ever attended or seen on livestream. Today on May Day 2013 in NYC, another giant street puppet will debut, and there will be Liberty and Justice! You can find them on Twitter as @Power2thePuppet and can find news from the Puppet Lair on Facebook. I can't wait to see the new Justice puppet. There are various pictures of the construction process in the places I've linked.
The People's Puppets of Occupy Wall Street is in full swing for the International Labor Holiday: Mayday!!!
Here is our day of action plan:
We begin the day early in 2 groups. Uptown (meeting in Bryant Park at 10am) and Downtown (meeting in Union Sq at 11am)
* The Uptown Group will take our Lady Liberty Puppet and our brand new debut of our Lady Justice Puppet on a few planned marches that also meet in Bryant Park.
The Uptown Group will march with:
-- Young Workers March with TWU beginning at 10:30 in Bryant Park https://www.facebook.com/...
-- Immigrant Justice Worker Tour beginning at 12noon in Bryant Park https://www.facebook.com/...
* The Downtown Group meets at 11am in Union Sq North plaza with MayPole, Cantastoria, Twister (Sequester) game and the Love Bomb Seed Bomb pickup point for Resistance is Fertile https://www.facebook.com/...
We will have baby union rat puppets with the 2:30 Solidarity Swarm March that will leave from Union Sq to visit stores and businesses.
** At 2:30/3pm the Uptown crew arrives at Union Sq. And Puppets will meet for lunch together, rest, collect ourselves and share stories.
!!!!!!!! 4pm PERFORMANCE TIME of the cantastoria. After the cantastoria, we will happily create a perimeter with the roll out of the Twister (Sequester) game. We need contestants and your wonderful audience energy to see the beautiful work we have been creating.
At 5:15, we will march to City Hall.

This video is from the final event of the Occupy National Gathering last July, when the Guitarmy arrived in Zuccotti Park after a 99 mile march from Philadelphia. We were there in Phila. to see them off, and there in NYC when they arrived, and saw them again on #S17 in Zuccotti for the first anniversary of OWS. We've made some really nice friends in Guitarmy, particularly Steve who is one of their organizers. Sad that we'll miss May Day this year. But they will be there again this year. Last year Tom Morello was with them. Not sure about this year.
Guitarmy - One Day... No Wall Street No Cry

The 99 mile marchers left Staten Island and took the ferry over to New York where they occupied Zuccotti Park and played music until the police got crazy and started arresting. The drummer for disturbing the peace? Really! The Country has gone mad!

Bush and Cheney Arrested by Dallas Police
Code Pink, Backbone Campaign, and dozens of supporters escorted protestors costumed as George W. Bush & Dick Cheney into the hands of the Dallas police who gladly arrested the duo. The arrests took place during a ceremony just a few hundred yards away where five living U.S. presidents and thousands of others participated in the dedication of the younger Bush's presidential library.
The protestors serving as stand-ins for Bush and Cheney were identified as Gary Egelston, a member of Iraq Veterans Against the War (Bush) and Dennis Trainor, Jr, documentary director of American Autumn: an occduc and creator of Acronym TV. Photojournalist Bill Perry was also arrested. All three were charged with Misdemeanors and released after 13 hours in custody.
The protests were part of a week long series of events dubbed The People's Response where Dallas protested, mourned, and bore witness to the crimes of the Bush Administration.
The arrests on Tuesday took place just after a rally and march lead by The People's Response, We Will Not Be Silent, Iraq Veterans Against the War, Veterans for Peace, Code Pink, and The Backbone Campaign.
Other protesters included ex-talk show host Phil Donahue, who was executive producer of the anti-war documentary "Body of War."
Dozens of others wore signs listing the names of those who died in wars launched by the Bush administration.
Trainor, Jr- one of the arrestees, said: "U.S. foreign policy- under both George W. Bush and now Barack Obama, is a blowback inducing homicidal bull in a cultural, religious, and geopolitical china shop."
"We refuse to allow the Bush Library to be a Bush Lie Bury. If anything, it is a monument to folly and should be filled with the biographies of the lives ended, ruined or injured, the principles abandoned, the resources wasted, and the time lost" says Bill Moyer, executive director of The Backbone Campaign.
Gary Egelston (arrested wearing George Bush costume) is a member of Iraq Veterans Against the War, and resides in Fort Worth, Texas, with his wife and two children. He completed five years active duty in the Air Force with deployments in Pakistan and Iraq. Currently, he is a senior in the history program at Texas Wesleyan University.
