Well. Ain't this just ducky. At the end of his Iowa tirade yesterday against Hillary Clinton which consisted of little more than a recitation the new Republican mantra of "Benghazi,  Benghazi and more Benghazi" he is quoted adding his "thoughts" on immigration reform and outreach to people of color and young folks.

Paul also spoke about broadening the party's appeal, namely to Latinos, African Americans and young voters.

"We're an increasingly diverse nation, and I think we do need to reach out to other people that aren't like us, don't look like us, don't wear the same clothes, that aren't exactly who we are," he said. "We're going to have to do something."

Hey Rand...who is "us". Nice dog whistle for "us okay approved by Paul white people."  Aren't "like us" - wtf?

Don't look like us?  Who do "we" look like?  Don't wear the same clothes? Last time I looked at my students who are a multi-colored garden they were all dressed pretty much the same way, but no matter.

"Aren't exactly who we are."

I should hope not. Thankfully the majority of Americans aren't part of the shrinking demographic of dyed-in-the-wool racists, sexists, homophobes and xenophobes.

You want to talk about immigration?

Okie dokie.

Your paternal line (Ron Paul's grandfather Casper Paul was born in 1867 in Hohenzell and immigrated to the US in 1888) got here when my family- black, white and Native American was already firmly ensconced on U.S. soil.

Your ancestors got off the boat and reaped the benefits of coming here. So what makes you think that you "randy-come-latelies" can slam the door shut behind you?

Sure. Phenotipically you don't look like me. Nor do you look like a Native American. Nor do you look like the folks who founded Saint Augustine Florida in 1565.

You don't have breasts or ovaries. Since women are the majority of U.S. citizens I guess men are a minority that don't look like the majority of us. heh.

The beauty of this country is that we don't have to look alike.
Freedom doesn't have a color.
Or think alike.
Or even dress alike.

I hope he keeps talking. I realize he is gearing up for a run at POTUS-hood in '16, but we need to keep broadcasting his views to the "us" that vote, and to potential new voters.

One color that I look forward to seeing the majority being in 2016 is blue.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
